  1. The setting is impacting the character (Ruth) because she does not know where she is. In the middle of nowhere. This effects her because, when you don't know where you are and just been kidnap it's scary. I believe the main theme is to stay focus physically and mentally. The reason is, Ruth tries to stay focus. Thinking on how to escape and not really get the thought of food/hunger into her head. She focus on getting to a road or where there is people. If i was her, i would not try to escape.I would try to make a deal with the wolfman. She is a very kinda smart thinking girl. Using her source. I believe if she would of never ran off, she would be better with him. Still being rude to him and be more clever. It was a bad idea to run off naked in the cold with no food. She now has no supplies to escape from him.

    1. I agree with you when saying that she should not have ran off naked with no supplies, but Ruth never got any food from the Wolfman anyways. Also if Ruth were to stay with the Wolfman she could have been hurt and killed quicker then if she at least tried to run off and look for help.

I'm reading ruthless by Carol Lee Adams and the setting has a huge effect on the story the setting is in an old cabin in the middle of the woods and its unknown where exactly located. This is a problem in the story because Ruth has no clue where it is but she has some clues for where it might be. It causes issues because if she escapes she doesn't know where she is, how far in the woods she is, or even what state she is in. if she tried to escape 'Wolfman' she could die by getting lost. It might almost be better for Ruth to wait it out and see if she can somehow get the keys to the car. Or even wait for someone to notice shes missing because running away might not be the best decision in her case.

In the book Ruthless by, "Carolyn Lee Adams" the main character wakes up in a strange environment and quickly realizes she has been abducted. The setting and background greatly affect how this story takes place. First off, the character was raised on a farm and has spent her whole life working hard and not being afraid to get dirty. This has been a very important concept and has had great effects on how my character is perceived. For example, when she realizes that she has been abducted, she uses her instinct and quick thinking to figure out the situation. She first realizes that she cannot see and has to use her hands to figure out the odd environment she is in. When the main character realizes that she is underneath some mulch in the back of a pickup truck she uses her instincts to try to fight her way out of it. This makes the character seem like a fighter and very strong willed. This is how the setting helps me understand the character better.

The setting is impacting the main character Ruth because she does not know where she is, and the place where she is has a terrible background. This effects Ruth because since she doesn't know her way around she doesn't know how to find supplies needed for survival. Also Ruth was running around naked, so if she went to try and find help people would not trust her. Ruth also knows what the Wolfman(her kidnapper) did to other girls in the cabin where he kept them, so she feels like she has to avenge them and escape. When Ruth escaped she was hiding in the woods with no food or water, and she was naked. If I was in her situation I would have ran on the road so that if any cars drove by I could try and get there attention. Also when Ruth found the house and tried to get the family to help her they didn't trust her. If that happened to me I would stay by the house so that they would call 911 and I would get help.

I agree with most everything you said. Ruth's emotions are going crazy, because she knows that she is not the first girl this has happened to and she feels pressure to avenge them. But as far as the 911 thing goes, I think if Ruth would've stayed for a long period of time, the Logan's would've shot her.

In the book ruthless, the main character ruth is abducted by a strange man she doesnt know but of his looks she calls him wolfman. She tries to escape the dark isolated barn surrounded by dark trees that go on for miles, but alas she is unable to. The setting plays a very big part to play in her surviving the wolfman, but with her being scared confused and naked all she has to follow is her guts. The woods is like the wolfman's backyard he knows every square inch of the place. She has the downfall from the wolfman, but ruth is a fighter so you know she won't give up.

In the book "Ruthless" by Carolyn Lee Adams The main character Ruth, wakes up/ appears in a "commercial like" settings. Ruth describes the changing form dream to dream like a "reality rush" chasing the dream away. In one of her longer dreams she explains how her grandparents would always tell her don't get kidnapped and fight your way out of it if you do. Then one day she woke up in the back of a truck questioning herself if she fought her way out of it and, where she was going and what had happened and who had her in the back of a truck? She plays dead then someone with large footsteps.

In the book "Ruthless" the main character ruthless wakes up in the dark, she cant open her eyes for some reason and her body is in pain. She thinks her right arm is broken but manages to move it. She had no idea where she is and at first thinks she got a concussion from a horse. She starts to feel around in the dark and feels rushing wind when she realizes she's in the back of a moving truck. When this happens she starts thinking back on how her grandparents always told her to never be tricked or kidnapped and always fight back. Realizing she is in that situation she thinks that she failed them and plays dead after hearing Heavy footsteps after the truck stops and someone gets out so she plays dead.

Ruth isn't thinking right. She isn't thinking about how to take care of herself first before finding help. When she heard the dogs bark and the helicopter, she should of went that direction because that means that there is people around, instead of going and try to find a highway. She is thinking that way because all she wants is to be rescued. I think it's wrong what she way doing because she needs to think smart. Not just go where she thinks it's smart. She shouldn't be thinking about how far away she can go away from wolfman, she should be thinking about where and how and patience. At the same time, when she faked her dyeing is a good idea. She can very smart when she is with wolfman and think on how to get away from him or attack him.

    1. When Ruth heard the dogs barking and the helicopter she did not go towards that because they were up the stream and she had already gotten so far. Also she was hurt so if she tried to climb back up Ruth could have gotten more hurt, and the people may have already left that area so it would be for nothing.

When you said, "She shouldn't be thinking about how far she can get from Wolfman" I disagreed. I think that if I were in Ruth's position that I would just get as far away from Wolfman as I possibly could. You did say that Ruth should've went to the sounds of the highway and dogs barking. But Ruth knows that the woods are very confusing and have a lot of dead ends, so she does not want to get lost and recaptured.

my character ruth isnt thinking right shes deciding to help herself before finding help she decided to go to the house for food, water, and shelter meanwhile there was a cop that went by where she was supposed to be she could of gotten saved right there and then and all this would have been over.ruth is acting this way because of how deprived she is from food and water ect which i completly understand why she made that decision. what i see wrong with it is the fact that she could of been saved and everything would have been over now

i disagree when you said "ruth isn't thinking right shes deciding to help herself before finding help." I think it's good that she takes care of herself before she finds help because she needs food to think right and keep her straight so after she "eats" she can Stop thinking about food and think about her being rescued.

While running away from the Wolfman,Ruth decides to find somewhere safe to rest. When she wakes up the Wolfman was close and searching for her. Ruth shot the Wolfman, and he fell and took a hard hit to his head. After this Ruth just left him there in the forest knowing he was still alive, and could possibly still have the ability to come after her. I disagree with this because the Wolfman was left there still alive, and if he woke up with no serious injuries then she would be in trouble again. Ruth left him there because she thought she could get away and find help quickly, but the Wolfman still had the advantage with
him knowing is way around to having a car with multiple weapons. If I were Ruth I would have tried to find his car, and depending on what was happening I would try to do something to him so that he could not run after her anymore.

    1. I see where you are going with that but imagine being traumatised by all of what he has done to her. She definitely does not want to have killed someone to top it all off with her horrible week with him.

I think that at the time when this happened Ruth's adrenaline was rushing so much that she most likely wasn't thinking about finishing off the Wolfman. Ruth probably just thought about getting away as fast as she could. So after she shot him, her instincts just told her to run.

    3. i wouldn't go near wolfman trucks. That's too risky. It's very strange that wolfman was still alive after he hit his head

In the book "Ruthless" the main character Ruth makes some back decisions that I do not agree with and could lead to her recapture. Ruth manages to escape from her kidnapper but is still trapped in the strange woods surrounding her. But the actions she is taking is making her more vulnerable and in harms way. For example, after Ruth escapes she finds a house owned by the Logan family. She finds out that they are in the house and gets very excited. Ruth then knocks on the door and begs for them to let her in. But when they think shes a meth addict and don't let her in she gets hostile and starts yelling at them. What Ruth did wrong was, instead of trying to solve this peacefully she started yelling which caused them to get even more mad. What i would have done in this situation is calmed down and been nice, hoping they would let me in.

    1. I disagree, because imagine just escaping a rapist/murderer, she is in major shock her emotions are getting in the way of her thoughts that is why she started yelling because she got impatient. But i totally agree in what you were trying to say. I would have done the exact same but instead try and reason the best i could. Which in other words imagine a naked girl covered in mud and dirt knocking on your door during the night time they would be absolutely terrified not only could they be scared of her being a drug addict but also have her think that she is a dead girls spirit.

i agree with you, she should of been more calm. I know that you are being watched by a murderer or a rapist. You still have to think smart to get the help you need. Yelling screaming and banging on someone's door isn't going to help. Try to be calm to get their trust maybe to let you in or get the help you need

    4. when you said she became hostile and violent i believe was a response any one would have. As you can see she is extremely impatient which is totally normal after literally being tortured/mistreated/embarrassed/injured then after all that finding a house that could literally end the book right there but was pushed back and said "we cant help you, so go away" which i think acting violent is a very very emotional way to act in such situation.

  12. In the book “Ruthless” the main character ruth was kidnapped by the “wolfman” and as she escaped from his grasp she runs away into a house that was nearby but they didn't want to help so she fled and found a house that had nobody in it she searched the house to either find food or water but she found two rifles and a colt python, the decision she made here made sense but was also very risky. She chose the python not only because she knew how to shoot it but because it wasn't heavy, but the downfall was it only had 3 bullets that she found that could fit it. She used a bullet on the wolfman twice but missed until her last bullet when she escaped the wolfman entirely. I would have chosen the rifle because not only did it have more bullets to put in it but because it made a larger hole when coming out. If she would have fired from the hip on the first chance she had on the wolfman she would have hit or when she woke up in the forest after resting from the wolfman she would have penetrated the kevlar vest he was wearing and either seriously injured him or killed him.

The only thing that I don't agree with is when you said that Ruth should have picked the rifle. Ruth was heavily injured and on top of that she had no clothes or food. Ruth was not in good shape so if she had to be running around with a rifle it wouldn't be good for her. It might have helped her though if she wasn't so injured because it could have penetrated the vest, but her chances of actually hitting him were slim to none because it would have hurt her to hold the gun.

    1. During Ruthless, Ruth was kidnapped and shes running away from a murderer (the Wolfman). Ruth was not in a dream this was real in the book, and she is stuck in the middle of the woods and has no idea how to get out or to find help since she doesn't know where she is.

The conflict in this book is Ruth trying to find help and escaping from a rapist or a murderer. This is important to the plot because it will show us or tell us if she will survive or not. The way i react to Ruth actions is nervous and mad. It makes me nervous because there is a man who in unpredictable looking for her and she is in the middle of nowhere. Also a bit mad because some of the choices she makes, isn't the right way.

I think that this conflict is too brief and it should go into a little more depth. The plot of the story is Ruth trying to escape the murderer so this wouldn't be a "conflict". Even though its not a "conflict" i have the same reaction as you. I feel nervous because Ruth can get taken by wolfman at anytime.

  15. During Ruthless, Ruth was kidnapped and was taken into the woods away from any civilization. The Wolfman (kidnapper) was also a rapist and a murderer. The conflict in this book is that Ruth was running away from the Wolfman with no food, clothes, or weapons and she didn't know where she was going. This is important to the plot because it shows that the choices Ruth makes will determine if she finds help and be safe from the Wolfman. When I read this book it makes me very nervous and always feeling scared for Ruth because of the situations that she gets into.

In the book Ruthless, i can say without a doubt that the most important conflict was ruth and Caleb. Caleb and ruth have been in some weird relationship where there friends but ruth wants to focus more on her competitions than caleb and his relationship status with him. I believe that without caleb and her doubting him with “his not fit/cut out to be a Carver...he is too country to be with me...I'm sure he isn't even looking for me” as the story progresses Ruth realizes that the more she thinks of him the more comforting she feels and for the end of the book, when she is at the hospital bed safe, Caleb goes in to check on her and after she wakes up he tells her how he really feels and then Ruth tells him how she feels toward him. Without that in mind she would've just gave up and not survived but i'm sure her gut kept his name in to have some sort of goal to have when she survives.
